Youth & Young Adult Programs

Community Based Services for Mental Health

  1. Vancouver Coastal Health: Regional Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Clinic

    Offers a collaborative approach to managing Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in young adults aged 19-35 living in the VCH region

  2. Vancouver Coastal Health Eating Disorders Program

    Our team includes: therapists, recreation therapists, outreach counsellors, a dietitian, a family therapist, nurse and physicians who are experienced in treating adults, youth and children who struggle with eating disorders. We offer a range of treatment approaches including: therapeutic groups, support groups, and individual and family support as appropriate.

Hospital or Residential Based

  1. BC Children's Hospital: Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Inpatient Unit

    These inpatient units are for youth ages 5-11 and 12-18.

  2. BC Children's Hospital: Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Emergency (CAPE)

    A short-term unit for youth up to age 16 who need support during a crisis.

  3. Provincial Youth Specialized Eating Disorders Program

    Inpatient treatment for youth up to age 18. We assess and treat children, youth and young adults with eating disorders in our Specialized Eating Disorder Program and the Looking Glass Residence.

  4. PHSA: Ashnola at The Crossing (Youth)

    Ashnola at the Crossing, located in Keremeos, British Columbia, is a specialized addictions treatment program for youth and young adults (17 to 24) across the province. To receive treatment, you need a referral from a health care professional.

  5. First Nations Health Authority: Treatment Centres

    In BC there are several residential treatment centres and an outpatient centre, funded through the National Native Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program (NNADAP). Services are offered to men, women, youth (in one centre) and families. Services offered at treatment facilities vary, but overall include services to clients with physical disabilities or concurrent disorders, to clients on OAT (opioid agonist therapy) or psychoactive medications. Services also include family treatment and services for pregnant women.

Adult & Older Adult Programs

  3. PHSA: Adult Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Assessments

    We fund Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) assessments for incarcerated adults to decide whether they are eligible for services from Community Living BC, an organization that provides services for people with developmental disabilities. FASD assessments are for people from one of three provincial correctional centres: (1) Alouette Correctional Centre for Women, (2) Fraser Regional Correctional Centre, and (3) Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre.

  4. BC Cancer: Psychiatry and Emotional Support

    Every person is different in how they respond to distressful situations. A variety of support options are available at your local cancer centre and in your community.

  5. PHSA: Genetic Counselling at the Adapt Clinic

    The Adapt Clinic provides free genetic counselling to people living in British Columbia who have a diagnosis of a psychiatric disorder, or a family member with a psychiatric disorder.

Hospital or Residential Based

  2. PHSA: The Heartwood Centre for Women

    A 30-bed residential facility that provides integrated treatment for women (19+), including trans women, across British Columbia who struggle with severe substance use and mental health challenges.

  3. PHSA: Rehabilitation & Recovery Program

    The 40-bed Rehabilitation & Recovery Program in Coquitlam, B.C., provides continued mental health and addiction support to people who have completed treatment at the Burnaby Centre for Mental Health and Addiction or the Heartwood Centre for Women.

  4. PHSA: Provincial Substance Use Treatment Program for Adults

    We work with partners throughout British Columbia to offer 30 specialized addiction treatment beds to adults who need help with severe substance use. These beds are available only by referral from a health care professional.
