Youth & Young Adult Programs

Community Based Service for Mental Health ONLY

  1. Pathways Clubhouse Society of Richmond

    Pathways Clubhouse helps members recover from mental illness and reclaim their lives through a supportive environment that focuses on the person’s strengths and talents, rather than illness. It creates opportunities for members to return to school, gain employment, have a place to live, connect with their families, make new friends and it provides mental health public education to increase awareness and understanding of issues and concerns about mental illness and mental health.

  2. Community Mental Wellness Association of Canada

    A platform that connects those with mental illness to their family members and other people with shared mental health concerns via culturally appropriate counseling services, education and training provided within a caring community environment. Part of an early intervention and prevention strategy, it offers peer support services and provides regular therapy programs and empowers individuals to take control of their lives and better manage their mental health.

  3. Early Psychosis Intervention (Vancouver and Richmond)

    The program provides early identification and treatment for psychosis so that symptoms don't become too unmanageable and disruptive to your life. Some of the services provided are: individual counselling; family meetings; and group sessions The program works with Individuals aged 13 - 30 living in Vancouver or Richmond with suspected or confirmed psychosis, except where explained by another medical condition or drug induced psychosis.

  4. Early Childhood Mental Health - Richmond (VCH)

    Provides interdisciplinary behavioural and mental health assessment and treatment services for children from 0-6th birthday. Treats children with a wide range of behavioural issues as well as parenting concerns including crying, bonding, parent-child relationship concerns, sleeping or toileting issues, aggressive behaviours, separation anxiety, social anxiety, and much more. Services are provided by infant/preschool child psychiatrists and other allied health professionals as needed.

  5. Child and Adolescent Mental Health Programs - Richmond (VCH)

    Provides community based assessment and treatment for children and youth ages 6 – 18 years and their families, who are affected by serious mental health concerns. This program also helps to coordinate care and services with other community resources.

  6. Richmond School Program (VCH)

    Provides interdisciplinary behavioural and mental health assessment and treatment services for elementary school-aged children (Kindergarten-Grade 7) who are experiencing challenges with their mental health in both the home and school setting. The comprehensive assessment and treatment is done with the family, the school and reaches out to other community partners the child may be involved with. Services are provided by child psychiatrists, therapists and other allied health professionals as needed.

  7. Family and Child Counseling Program - Richmond (VCH)

    Inspires, nurtures and promotes a healthy parent-child relationship through counselling, health promotion and consultation. Offers short term counselling for families with children age 6-12 years old. The team hosts workshops and groups to increase parents' and guardians' knowledge of child development and to build their capacity to respond to the children's social and emotional needs.

  8. Richmond Adult Mental Health Team (VCH)

    Provides community based assessment and treatment for adults 19 and over with functional impairment due to severe, persistent mental illness. Multidisciplinary services include case management, outreach and rehabilitation programs. Peer support is also offered through the Adult Mental Health Team via Richmond Mental Health Consumer and Friends' Society.

  9. Richmond Bridge House - Acute & short-term crisis intervention (VCH)

    Provides a 10 bed residential short stay crisis intervention facility for adults age 19 and over who are experiencing a mental health crisis but do not require an acute psychiatric hospitalization. Clients are cared for by an interdisciplinary team 24/7 and can be admitted for a maximum of 14 days. The service provides a safe supportive environment where clients have the opportunity to learn new skills to better manage their illness once they are discharged back into the community.

  10. Richmond Mental Health Inpatient Unit- VCH

    Richmond Hospital Inpatient Psychiatry unit provides assessment and treatment to adults ages 19 and over who require acute 24-hour management in a hospital setting. The units are staffed by an interdisciplinary team who work in collaboration with the patient, their family and community supports to provide individualized patient-centered care. Discharge planning includes referral to community resources for follow up.

  11. Richmond Psychiatric Emergency Unit

    Provides stays of 72 hours or less for assessment, stabilization and treatment of adults ages 19 and over experiencing a psychiatric/mental health crisis. Provides specialized mental health and substance use services in an environment that supports a patient and family centered approach. The interdisciplinary team is able to access both hospital and community resources, on an as needed basis. Provides discharge planning, case consultation and linkage with appropriate community resources for follow up.

  12. Eating Disorders Program - Richmond - VCH

    Offers community-based assessment and treatment for youth, adults and families with eating disorders. Treatment may include: Individual, group and/or family counselling Medical monitoring Nutritional support The aim is to explore and enhance the unique strengths and abilities of clients and families in the pursuit of personal and health goals. Consultation and education are also available to community agencies and professionals to promote awareness and early intervention.

Community Based Service for Mental Health AND Substance Use

  1. Foundry Richmond

    Foundry Richmond aims to provide a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible space for young people 12-24 and their families to find support for their wellness needs. Sexual Health Services (formerly Youth Clinic) Drop-in Counselling Youth Peer Support: Family Peer Support Mental health intake clinicians are available for assessment and treatment matching to mental health and substance use services in Richmond.

  2. Acute Home Based Treatment (AHBT) - Richmond (VCH)

    Offers short-term, mental health and/or substance use treatment for clients 17 years of age and over living in Richmond. Services are offered in home settings. This service is for people experiencing an increase in symptoms or distress related to mental illness or substance use.

  3. Transitions - Richmond (VCH)

    Provides assessment and treatment services to Richmond residents ages 19 and over with substance use (including alcohol and/or drugs) and/or mental health concerns (including mood and anxiety issues). Services may include individual and/or group counselling, psychiatric assessment, referral/advocacy, acupuncture and other complementary therapies

  4. Supporting Families Affected by Parental Mental Illness and Addictions program

    Supporting Families aims to support families affected by parental mental health or addiction concerns. We offer opportunities for members of a family to access appropriate community supports, learn new information and skills, and most importantly, strengthen social connections in the community! Community Based Service for Substance Use ONLY

    Withdrawal Management

    1. Acute Home Based Treatment (AHBT)

      Supported in home withdrawal from any substance, for those living in Richmond; daily home visits during acute withdrawal; must have substance-free, safe, stable environment to detox and a 24-hr support person who can stay throughout withdrawal process (or program can help find environment and person if not available); provide brief counseling interventions

    2. Drug & Alcohol Resource Team (DART)

      Hospital-based team that provides assessment, consultation, referral, OAT prescription management/initiation for those with substance use concerns and admitted to the hospital; brief counseling interventions to identify current or potential problems with substance use and motivate those at risk to change behaviours - may have single interaction or a few short sessions. (Accessible as an inpatient service)

    Harm Reduction

    1. Anne Vogel Clinic - Richmond (VCH)

      The Ann​​e Vogel Substance Use / Primary Care Clinic​ provides medical care and social supports to individuals who are living with opioid use disorder in Richmond.​ An inter-disciplinary team that provides a variety of evidence-based medical treatments for opioid misuse disorder. ​The clinic also distributes Take Home Naloxone kits and other safer-use supplies at no cost. Clients are welcome to walk in or call for more information.​

    2. ​Harm Reduction and Needle Exchange - Richmond (VCH)

      Provides harm reduction supplies, including safer injection, safer smoking and safer sex supplies to people of all ages. Also offers harm reduction education and referrals to health services, substance use services and other social supports. The goals of this program are to prevent infections, including HIV and Hepatitis C, to provide harm reduction education and support, and to connect clients to programs and services to improve health and well-being.

Hospital Based Services

  1. Richmond Psychiatric Emergency Unit

    Provides a brief stay (72 hours or less) unit for assessment, stabilization and treatment of adults ages 19 and over experiencing a psychiatric/mental health crisis. Provides specialized mental health and substance use services in an environment that supports a patient and family centered approach. The interdisciplinary team is able to access both hospital and community resources, on an as needed basis. Provides discharge planning, and linkage with appropriate community resources for follow up.

Services include: Addiction assessments and treatment planning Counselling of patients and family Medical management Discharge planning Education

      For those who use any substance and have gone through withdrawal and completed recovery; intensive programming all day; typically a younger male demographic

      Holistic recovery program supporting people dealing with substance use, concurrent mental health issues, and/or mental health issues, utilizing a harm reduction framework; educational support for people who are impacted by a family member's mental health or addiction issue

      For those who use any substance; doesn't have to be recent/active substance use, could be a preventative admission; admission dependent upon individual presentation; flexible, loose structure, non-intensive, 12-step oriented with voluntary participation; may take clients with mental health issues, depending on presenting/historical stability
