  1. Looking Glass BC Foundation

    The Looking Glass Foundation strives to support individuals struggling with eating disorders and disordered eating. We offer innovative and accessible programs and services that decrease isolation, instill hope, and sustain recovery for individuals on their road to recovery.

  2. Looking Glass Residence

    The Looking Glass Residence is a 14-bed treatment facility for youth aged 16 to 24, of all genders, who are suffering from anorexia, bulimia and other eating disorders. 24/7 care and support is provided by a multi-disciplinary team of medical and mental health professionals in a caring, home-like setting.

  3. The Canadian Mental Health Association - Vancouver Fraser

    The Canadian Mental Health Association provides mental health promotion and mental illness recovery-focused programs and services for people of all ages and their families. CMHA Housing Programs help individuals find independent living while building skills as they work on their recovery: Community Living Support and Support Independent Living Transitional Housing Youth Support Independent Living Children and Youth

  4. YMCA Greater Vancouver - Y Mind Teen

    Y Mind Teen is a free online seven-week mental wellness program delivered across BC. This program supports teens ages 13 to 18 who are experiencing symptoms of anxiety to learn and practice evidence-based strategies to cope with stress and anxiety. Y Mind Teen is led by trained mental health professionals and gives teens the chance to connect with others who are experiencing similar thoughts and feelings."

  5. YMCA Greater Vancouver - Y Mind Youth

    Y Mind Youth is a free seven-week mental wellness program delivered across BC. Y Mind Youth supports people ages 18-30 who are experiencing symptoms of anxiety to learn and practice evidence-based strategies to increase coping.   6. Qmunity Counselling & Wellness Program

    QMUNITY offers ten sessions of free and reduced-cost health and wellness counselling for individuals, couples, relationships, and families. All of our counsellors are members of the LGBTQ2SAI+ communities. Our counselling program focuses on health and wellness, and is not set up to work with people with severe mental illness.

  7. MOODFX

    MoodFx is an interactive mobile-optimized website designed to help people with depression and anxiety by providing simple and scientifically valid methods for monitoring symptoms and functioning. MoodFx was developed in partnership between the Mood Disorders Centre and the University of British Columbia’s eHealth Strategy Office. Both are located in Vancouver, Canada. We will never sell or release any contact or other personal information to any commercial third parties.

  8. The Counselling and Wellness Centre at the Mood Disorders Association of BC (MDABC)

    The Counselling and Wellness Centre at MDABC exists to inspire and support people who wish to cultivate a calm mind, a resilient spirit, and a renewed sense of wellbeing. No matter what is troubling you, our compassionate, highly-trained counselors and educators are here to work with you to find solutions and bring meaningful change to your own life. Our counsellors embrace the Bio-Psycho-Social-Spiritual modality approach for therapy.

  9. Spotlight on Mental Health

    Peer-run site is for the people who use mental health services and their friends, families and supporters. MISSION: To empower mental health consumers through meaningful involvement.

  10. Alan Cashmore Centre - Infant and Childhood Mental Health Service

    The Alan Cashmore Centre is an early childhood mental health team for families with infants and children under six years of age. We provide services to families who live in Vancouver.

  11. Boundaries Program (FACES) - Raven Song Community Health Centre - VCH

    Our program works with children under 12 years of age who exhibit sexualized behaviour to help them understand and modify their behaviour. We work with families and other caregivers to help them problem solve, create safety plans and manage behaviours."

  12. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

    Our program is designed to help develop positive parenting practices and behavioural management strategies for parents who have children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Children age 3-15 with a primary diagnosis of ADHD, living in the city of Vancouver. Helps parents and youth by teaching behaviour and communication strategies, building esteem building problem-solving and coping skills. Provides information on medications and consultations with health-care professionals

  13. Boundaries Program (FACES) - East Hastings Street

    Our program works with children under 12 years of age who exhibit sexualized behaviour to help them understand and modify their behaviour. We work with families and other caregivers to help them problem solve, create safety plans and manage behaviours.

  14. Child and Adolescent Response Team (CART) - West Broadway

    ​We provide urgent response (within 72 hours), short-term mental health service to school-aged children and youth who are experiencing acute psychiatric or emotional crises. Services include urgent assessment and consultation, clinical intervention, and coordination with community resources. ​Serves residents of Vancouver. Clients with a private psychiatrist or who are working with a VCH Child and Youth Mental Health team are not eligible for short term treatment. Age range: 5-18 years old

  15. Child and Youth Indigenous Mental Health Outreach

    Indigenous Mental Health Outreach provides culturally appropriate mental health counselling to Indigenous youth and their families who have been unable to engage with or access mental health services. Mental health clinicians provide services on an outreach basis in youth's own community environment. Services include initiatives to engage youth in treatment, mental health and psychiatric assessments as well as various forms of therapeutic mental health counselling and treatments.

  16. Child and Youth Cross Cultural Mental Health Program - East Hastings Street

    ​We provide direct mental health services to youth and families in Mandarin and Cantonese. We also consult with other mental health professionals, community groups and schools who work with children who speak primarily Cantonese or Mandarin. Serves residents of Vancouver. Age Range: 5 - 18

  21. Connect Parent Program (FACES) - East Hastings

    ​Our program for parents of children dealing with attachment issues. We help parents recognize distress and anxiety in pre-adolescents, and respond appropriately. Age Range: 8 - 18

  22. Early Psychosis Intervention (Vancouver and Richmond)

    Psychosis is a treatable medical condition that affects the brain. Psychosis symptoms are different in each person but usually include hallucinations, delusions and/or difficulties with thinking. Our program provides early identification and treatment for psychosis so that symptoms don't become too unmanageable and disruptive to your life. Some of the services we provide are: individual counselling family meetings group sessions Individuals aged 13 - 30 with suspected or confirmed psychosis

  23. Eating Disorders Program (Vancouver and Coastal)

    We serve children, youth and adults who have Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and other specified feeding or eating disorders at various stages in the recovery process in collaboration with their primary care providers. Our services are free of charge and treatment options include: Group work Family and friends support group Individual/family therapy, and outreach Nutritional Specialized medical and psychiatric support Recreation therapy Part of a larger continuum of care

  24. Foundations Program (FACES) - Foster Families Support - East Hastings Street

    We provide in-home consultation and education to support caregivers with children who are experiencing serious emotional and/or behavioural problems. Must be a resident of Vancouver or Richmond. Age Range: 5 - 18 years old

  25. Gastown Vocational Services

    GVS uses a variety of evidence-based practices to foster vocational rehabilitation and mental health recovery. Some of GVS supported employment and education services include: GVS staff collaborates with each person to determine an individualized vocational plan that tailors services to meet their needs and goals. Career exploration can involve an in depth assessment by a clinician and/or supported research and informational interviews. Another example of services is supported education.

  26. Here4Peers

    ​Teams of specially trained high school students, acting as peer facilitators, deliver interactive workshops about mental health awareness to Grade 7 students. The student volunteers work with adult mentors on their presentations, gaining skills like public speaking and leadership, as well as self-confidence and self-esteem. Currently available at David Thompson, Killarney, and Vancouver Technical Secondary School.

  27. Resilient Kids (FACES) - East Hastings Street

    ​We provide group counselling and education to children who have a parent with significant mental illness, and who have established psychiatric support for the parent. Consists of eight 2-hour sessions for a maximum of 12 children. Areas covered in these groups include coping, communication and social skills, mental health education to help children understand their parent's illness, peer support, building self-esteem and confidence, and other recreational and relaxation activities.

  28. Strathcona Mental Health Team

    Our Program serves clients over the age of 19 who are diagnosed with a major mental illness and experiencing significant problems that interfere with their functioning in the community. Our multi-disciplinary services are provided through eight mental health teams and a variety of specialized programs. Services are also provided to people who have co-occurring disorders such as personality disorders, substance abuse/misuse, mental challenges, etc. This does not apply to Older Adult Mental Health.

  29. Youth Mental Wellness Counselling - South Vancouver Youth Centre

    ​We provide community-based mental health services to children and youth with serious mental health difficulties or social, emotional or behaviour disturbances. Our mental health teams provide psychosocial evaluation and assessment, counseling services, transitional mental health services (for older-aged youth) as well as consultation and education to individuals and the community about mental illness. We also provide non-therapeutic support services.

  30. Youth Outreach Service - Cambie Street

    ​Our mental health clinicians provide mental health and psychiatric assessments and therapeutic counseling to marginalized youth with no fixed address and who are not responsive to office-based mental health services. Our services are provided on an outreach basis in youth's own community environment. Mental health clinicians also provide consultation and education about mental health issues to community-based service providers. We also provide non-therapeutic support services

  31. The Deaf, Hard of Hearing & Deaf-Blind Well-Being Program (WBP)

    The VCH Deaf, Hard of Hearing, & Deaf-Blind Well-Being Program (WBP) provides mental health services for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf-Blind people throughout BC.

  32. Youth Assertive Outreach Mental Health Team

    The Assertive Outreach Team (AOT) supports patients who suffer from severe addictions and mental health issues and transition them from local emergency departments in Vancouver to appropriate community services. Our programs serve clients over the age of 19 who are diagnosed with a major mental illness and experiencing significant problems that interfere with their functioning in the community.

  1. Watari Counselling & Support

    Watari helps high-risk street involved youth in the downtown eastside and the surrounding communities, through several youth and community programs as well as through our counselling team.

  2. Jewish Family Services

    JFS’s Counselling and Wellness programs provide therapy services to youth, adults, seniors, couples, and families. We have an experienced team of therapists who have been trained in a variety of therapeutic disciplines such as family systems therapy, couples counselling, individual psycho-therapy, brief or solution-focused therapy, youth counselling and group therapy.

  3. The Kettle Society

    Our organization serves a community of 6,000+ vulnerable individuals each year, manages 400+ units of supportive housing, and operates a mental health drop-in centre that provides meals every day of the year. We also provide advocacy services, an ID bank, homeless outreach, a women’s transition house, a health clinic, a volunteer program, and supported employment. Our enrichment programs span self care & sufficiency, community interaction, art, music, writing and the outdoors.

  4. Foundry Vancouver Granville

    Foundry Vancouver-Granville offers young people 12-24 access to mental health and substance use support, primary care, peer support and social services. From counselors to doctors, from occupational therapists to income assistance specialists, the skill and diversity of our team is the key to the centre’s success. Each team member uses their expertise and talents to connect a young person with the care, community resources, and fun activities they need to lead a healthy, fulfilling life."

    Our program serves clients over the age of 19 who are diagnosed with a major mental illness and experiencing significant problems that interfere with their functioning in the community. Services are also provided to people who have co-occurring disorders such as personality disorders, substance abuse/misuse, mental challenges, etc.

  12. South Mental Health and Substance Use Team

    Open to adults (19+) living in South Vancouver (south of 41st Ave from Boundary to Granville, south of King Edward Avenue west of Granville). Clients of the team experience continued significant functional impact despite use/attempted use of primary health services and community supports. Our team provides interdisciplinary, goal-oriented services both in the clinic and in the community including individual and group treatments.

      Uses a comprehensive approach to deliver coordinated prevention and early intervention strategies that emphasize relationships, connectedness, positive youth development, and social and emotional learning. Youth Prevention and Engagement, Parent Engagement, Curriculum and Teacher Training, and STEP - a three day off site program

The counsellor provides consultation and works collaboratively with other counsellors, health care professionals and the client and client's family.     4. Substance Use Services - Three Bridges Community Health Centre

      Three Bridges Substance Use Services (3BSUS) offers drop-in intake and assessment for people living in Vancouver struggling with problematic substance use. Other services include: short-term counselling for adults; longer-term counselling for Youth (24 and under) 3BSUS also offers VAMP, a 16-week abstinence-based day treatment (outpatient) group program with two streams: one for gay, bisexual & queer men, and one for all genders. ​Age range 19 and over.

      A voluntary, ten-week, live-in, treatment program for youth experiencing problems with drugs, including alcohol. We operate within the harm reduction spectrum with a trauma informed, client centred, and social justice framework.

    3. Sequoia House - Vancouver Youth Supportive Recovery Program

      Short- to medium-term support for youth to make positive changes and work on a plan to address recovery; for individuals with complex and persistent substance use issues, with or without concurrent mental health issues; for those transitioning into withdrawal management or live-in programs, or awaiting housing

      Low-barrier programs for those in early and later stages of recovery from any substance; includes drop-in groups and access to mental health services

      ​Detoxification unit for adults 19 years and over, located in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. Nursing care and physician support provide a safe, supportive environment for individuals who are experiencing acute withdrawal from substances. Offers referrals to follow-up treatment. Serves North Shore, Richmond, Sunshine Coast, and Vancouver.

Tertiary MHSU Services

  1. Adult Intensive Tertiary Mental Health Rehabilitation - Vancouver General Hospital

    Provides inpatient service to clients 19 years+ with complex mental illness that has stabilized to the degree that acute treatment is no longer required, but for whom ongoing intensive psychiatric, behavioural and psychosocial rehabilitation is needed. Individuals in this program may later integrate into secondary residential services. Clients can expect to receive the support required to work toward their wellness goals. The length of stay ranges from six to 24 months, depending on individual needs.

  2. Adult Tertiary Mental Health Assessment & Treatment Service - Vancouver General Hospital

    ​We provide 24-hour specialized in-depth assessment and treatment for people experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms who require a secure, specialized treatment environment. Patients stay in the Willow Pavilion from between 3 - 6 months, depending on individual needs. People transition from this program to either a Tertiary Mental Health Rehabilitation Program or to community and residential mental health services available within Vancouver Coastal Health.

    The Canadian Mental Health Association provides mental health promotion and mental illness recovery-focused programs and services for people of all ages and their families.   3. YMCA Greater Vancouver - Y Mind Youth

    Y Mind Youth is a free seven-week mental wellness program delivered across BC. Y Mind Youth supports people ages 18-30 who are experiencing symptoms of anxiety to learn and practice evidence-based strategies to increase coping. This group is led by trained mental health professionals and gives young adults the chance to connect with others who are experiencing similar thoughts and feelings. "

  4. YMCA Greater Vancouver - Y Mind Adult

    This free, seven-week mental wellness program is open to those aged 31 and up who are experiencing stress and mild to moderate anxiety. Participants will learn evidence-based strategies to increase coping. This group is led by trained mental health professionals and gives adults the chance to connect with others who are experiencing similar thoughts and feelings."

  5. Qmunity Counselling & Wellness Program

    QMUNITY offers ten sessions of free and reduced-cost health and wellness counselling for individuals, couples, relationships, and families. All of our counsellors are members of the LGBTQ2SAI+ communities. Our counselling program focuses on health and wellness, and is not set up to work with people with severe mental illness.

  6. MOODFX

    MoodFx is an interactive mobile-optimized website designed to help people with depression and anxiety by providing simple and scientifically valid methods for monitoring symptoms and functioning. MoodFx was developed in partnership between the Mood Disorders Centre and the University of British Columbia’s eHealth Strategy Office. Both are located in Vancouver, Canada. We will never sell or release any contact or other personal information to any commercial third parties.

Our program provides early identification and treatment for psychosis so that symptoms don't become too unmanageable and disruptive to your life.     We serve children, youth and adults who have Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and other specified feeding or eating disorders at various stages in the recovery process in collaboration with their primary care providers.     GVS uses a variety of evidence-based practices to foster vocational rehabilitation and mental health recovery. Some of GVS supported employment and education services include: GVS staff collaborates with each person to determine an individualized vocational plan that tailors services to meet their needs and goals. Career exploration can involve an in depth assessment by a clinician and/or supported research and informational interviews. Another example of services is supported education.

    JFS’s Counselling and Wellness programs provide therapy services to youth, adults, seniors, couples, and families. We have an experienced team of therapists who have been trained in a variety of therapeutic disciplines such as family systems therapy, couples counselling, individual psycho-therapy, brief or solution-focused therapy, youth counselling and group therapy.

  3. The Kettle Society

    Our organization serves a community of 6,000+ vulnerable individuals each year, manages 400+ units of supportive housing, and operates a mental health drop-in centre that provides meals every day of the year. We also provide advocacy services, an ID bank, homeless outreach, a women’s transition house, a health clinic, a volunteer program, and supported employment. Our enrichment programs span self care & sufficiency, community interaction, art, music, writing and the outdoors.

  11. South Mental Health and Substance Use Team

    Open to adults (19+) living in South Vancouver (south of 41st Ave from Boundary to Granville, south of King Edward Avenue west of Granville). Clients of the team experience continued significant functional impact despite use/attempted use of primary health services and community supports. Our team provides interdisciplinary, goal-oriented services both in the clinic and in the community including individual and group treatments.

  12. Women’s Intensive Case Management

    The Women’s Intensive Case Management mandate is to work with marginalized women (Trans inclusive). The Women’s Intensive Case Management Team accept referrals from Downtown East Side partnered Women’s organizations and Housing organizations who work with marginalized women who are not connect to health services and meet the mandate of Intensive Case Management Team. ​People who live in the DTES who experience severe substance problems and unmet chronic health issues.

  13. Heatley Intensive Case Management Team

    The VCH Heatley work with people in the Downtown East Side who experience severe substance abuse problems, chronic unmet medical needs, and multiple barriers for accessing services. Intensive Case-Management Team clients also require integrated wrap around health services in an outreach model. ​People who live in the DTES who experience severe substance problems and unmet chronic health issues.

  14. Mood Disorders Centre - Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health

    The outpatient Mood Disorders Centre, located in the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health, focuses on depression and bipolar disorders. This service functions primarily as a consultation clinic, in which patients receive careful assessment, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations. ​We provide consultation and assessments for adults with mood disorders, primarily within the Vancouver Coastal Health region (Vancouver, North Shore, Richmond, and the Sunshine Coast).

  15. Venture - East 13th Avenue

    We provide short-term crisis intervention, counselling and stabilization programs to mental health clients as an alternative to hospitalization. Treatment plans are created on admission and can include medication planning as well as daily living activities as well as admission to an afternoon drop-in program. Serves only Vancouver residents who are 19 years and older.

  16. Community Transition Team - East Hastings Street

    ​We work with hospital staff to help discharge-ready mental health clients transition from an acute psychiatric unit back to the community. Services include assistance with housing, rapid crisis response, connecting clients with community-based mental health teams, monitoring client mental health and medication as well as assistance in accessing community resources and other health services. Also provides short-term crisis-response to adults with serious and persistent mental illnesses.

  17. Older Adult Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) Services - Vancouver

    We provide specialized community-based services for older adults (65+) including mental health assessment and consultation, treatment, case management, rehabilitation services, substance use counselling. Care is coordinated with primary care physicians and other community programs.     Through the BC Operational Stress Injury (OSI) Clinic, we offer an outpatient program where clients who live with mental health conditions related to a post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or OSI and their families can find comprehensive clinical assessment and treatment services under one roof. What services are provided? We provide psychological and/or psychiatric assessment and if an OSI or PTSD is confirmed, our team will then develop a treatment plan that best fits the client’s needs.

      Level 3 WDM; 24-hour support staff supervised with medical oversight; for those those not requiring 24-hr medical supervision; not for clients detoxing from alcohol or benzodiazepines, or at risk of seizures or floridly psychotic or suicidal; dormitory-style beds; will take clients withdrawing from methadone if already have a treatment bed to go to after withdrawal

    2. Onsite

      Level 3 WDM; inpatient, 24-hr support staff supervised withdrawal with medical oversight; for those not requiring 24-hr medical supervision; typically only accepted via Insite, however may take clients from hospital; loosely structured, voluntary participation in groups

    3. Substance Use Treatment & Response (START)

      WDM support in home that provides supported treatment options to help withdraw from or stabilise any substance use, for those living in Vancouver; daily home visits during acute withdrawal; must have substance-free, safe, stable environment to detox and a 24-hr support person who can stay throughout withdrawal process (or program can help find environment and person if not available)

      Level 4 WDM; 24-hour medical management of withdrawal; those with symptoms that call for intense monitoring by medically trained staff, including those with a history of complications along with substance use withdrawal, or chronic unstable medical conditions in addition to substance use withdrawal or complex comorbidities, and/or acute/unstable mental health conditions in addition to substance use withdrawal; therapeutic relationships, culturally sensitive & trauma informed; voluntary group participation

Serves North Shore, Richmond, Sunshine Coast, and Vancouver.

Tertiary MHSU Services

  1. Assertive Community Treatment

    Vancouver's 6 Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams provide enhanced, wrap around care and treatment in the community to people living with complex mental health and/or substance use challenges who may benefit from a supportive approach to care beyond that of standard services.

  2. Adult Intensive Tertiary Mental Health Rehabilitation - Vancouver General Hospital

    Provides inpatient service to clients 19 years+ with complex mental illness that has stabilized to the degree that acute treatment is no longer required, but for whom ongoing intensive psychiatric, behavioural and psychosocial rehabilitation is needed. Individuals in this program may later integrate into secondary residential services. Clients can expect to receive the support required to work toward their wellness goals. The length of stay ranges from six to 24 months, depending on individual needs.

  3. Adult Tertiary Mental Health Assessment & Treatment Service - Vancouver General Hospital

    ​We provide 24-hour specialized in-depth assessment and treatment for people experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms who require a secure, specialized treatment environment. Patients stay in the Willow Pavilion from between 3 - 6 months, depending on individual needs. People transition from this program to either a Tertiary Mental Health Rehabilitation Program or to community and residential mental health services available within Vancouver Coastal Health.
